Martine Beswick (the James Bond chick) is hosting this stupendous Rule 5 meta blog post because I'm rejecting reality this week...

Martine Beswick got her start by appearing in some James Bond flicks. Martine Beswick was also a Hammer honey, did some spaghetti westerns and was in a little soft porn

Martine Beswick developed something of a reputation for catfights, going mano a mano with Raquel Welch in the caveman flick One Million Years BC.

The burkini ban in France is nothing but a product of political opportunism. With the proximity of elections looming, shortsighted politicking is the only consideration that matters. Local petty political chieftains would rather provoke national turbulence merely to win a local council seat than do what is in their country’s national interest.

The year was 1967. And in the real world, Leo Burnett was developing Virginia Slims for Philip Morris. The magazine and TV campaign launched the following summer, and it was an instant success.  In 1976, NASA began releasing a magazine to summarize its influence on civilian items. Aptly titled Spinoff, each issue is 100-plus pages of essential nerd material and trivia fodder, charting the diaspora of space technology.

Will Juno’s Instruments Observe the Moons of Jupiter? It is not easy to observe Jupiter’s moons as more than points of light with Juno, because Juno will never get very close to any of the moons.

Recently about reports that a group of Russian astronomers have detected a strong signal coming from a distant star (HD164595) that could be a sign of a high-technology civilization. Here’s my reaction: it’s interesting, but it’s definitely not the sign of an alien civilization - at least not yet....

Given the fact that a signal coming from a distance of 94 light years away and with no immediate recurrence, the amount of energy behind this outburst of signal must be very strong indeed. If there are alien races living all over our galaxy, the rate of evolution in their technologies should vary greatly. Don't forget that our first nuclear explosion had only occurred in 1945. This SETI signal may very well be the first nuclear explosion occurred more than 94 years ago on HD164595b.
