A Santa Monica firefighter who spent twenty minutes performing CPR and what’s known as mouth-to-snout resuscitation on a Nalu the dog, that was rescued from a burning apartment. The Firefighter has been lauded as a hero for saving his life.

Nalu’s owner, Crystal Lamirande, reportedly tried frantically to save her dog but was unable to enter the apartment because the smoke was too thick. According to the New York Post, Andrew Klein got down on all fours to search the apartment for Nalu and found him unconscious a few feet from the fire in a bedroom.

Nalu spent the next 24 hours recovering in an oxygen chamber and was almost back to his normal self again. “He’s been coughing but right now he’s fine and he’s so happy and smiling,” Nalu’s owner said.

Nalu’s owner posted a message of thanks to the Santa Monica Fire Department’s Facebook page

There are real heroes all over the world, but they are generally not in the spotlight.
