This monumental photo blog is all about Songkran, Thai New Year, which is a huge water festival gone wild!
Songkran (Thai New Year)
Songkran the Thai New Year (สงกรานต์ = Songkran in Thai language) is celebrated every year in the middle of April. Songkran is also celebrated in Laos and is called Thingyan in Myanmar. Sri Lanka also celebrates a similar festival
History of Songkran Festival
The word Songkran is from the Sanskrit language and means the passage of the sun from one sign of the Zodiac to another. That means there are twelve Songkrans each year, but the significance of this Songkran (sometimes called Major Songkran to distinguish it from the others) is when the sun enters the sign of Aries the Ram. The particular event was also closely related to the Vernal Equinox.
Celebrating New Year at the time of the Vernal Equinox was very common in the past. The Songkran celebration is similar to those of the Indian Holi Festival, the Chinese Ching Ming, and the Christian Festival of Easter.

Bummer... "There will be no dancing and music or any kind of festive activity during Songkran celebrations on the popular Khao San Road this year," Phra Nakhon district chief Supakrit Boonkhan. Also, He said only traditional water splashing and merit-making as well as a Buddha image procession will be allowed this year, as the country is still in the mourning period following the passing of King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
I am going to hanging out at Pothole Beach Resort for Songkran
