Bizarre Weather on Other Planets
Out of all of the planets in the Solar System, Mars is by far the most earth-like. Nonetheless, with its extremely tenuous atmosphere, there’s no rain, and water would evaporate almost instantly on the surface. However, the Red Planet is famous for its enormous dust storms, which can easily outdo anything seen here on Earth. Rarely, wind speeds on Mars can reach as much as 100 mph, subjecting the desert world to global dust storms on occasion. Nonetheless, while the wind speeds can be high, it would feel like nothing more than a light breeze to astronauts walking on the surface, due to the thin atmosphere and subsequent lack of atmospheric friction. This fact was something that the otherwise relatively scientifically accurate movie ‘The Martian’ failed to take into account.

Yahoo secretly scanned customer emails for the Alphabet Soup agencies 

 The eye-opening details, reported first by Reuters, are believed to be the first time a technology firm has built a custom software to search correspondence as messages arrived. 

Compliance with the request led to Yahoo's chief information security officer Alex Stamos leaving the company (he is now at Facebook), it is said. When his security team discovered the code in 2015, they believed it was the work of hackers.

"We narrowly interpret every government request for user data to minimize disclosure,"Yahoo said in a statement to AFP. "The mail scanning described in the article does not exist on our systems."

1955 Map Shows No-Go Zones for Soviet Travelers in the U.S.

This map shows where Soviet citizens, who were required to have a detailed itinerary approved before obtaining a visa, could and could not go during their time in the United States. Most ports, coastlines, and weapons facilities were off-limits, as were industrial centers and several cities in the Jim Crow South.

These restrictions mirrored Soviet constraints on American travel to the USSR. Both the United States and the Soviet Union had closely controlled the movement of all foreign visitors since World War II. A 1952 law in the U.S. barred the admission of all Communists, and therefore of Soviet citizens.

The Soviets’ decision to relax their controls after Joseph Stalin’s death in March 1953 left the U.S. open to charges that it, not the USSR, was operating behind an Iron Curtain. President Eisenhower and his foreign policy advisers decided to mimic Soviet policy as closely as possible: As of early 1955, citizens of either nation could enter approximately 70 percent of the other’s territory, including 70 percent of cities with populations greater than 100,000.

Travel restrictions on Soviet private citizens stayed in place, enforced by the Departments of State and Justice, until the Kennedy administration unilaterally lifted them in 1962 as a symbol of the openness of American society. Controls on visits from journalists and government officials, by contrast, lingered until the end of the Cold War.

NASA's Juno spacecraft lost its main computer and science instruments shortly before it was due to make an orbital pass near Jupiter on Wednesday, scuttling highly anticipated close-up observations of the largest planet in the solar system.

The U.S. space agency said the glitch followed an unrelated problem last week that prompted it to skip firing Juno’s braking engine, to steer the probe into a tighter regular orbit around Jupiter.

Juno's computer restarted after Wednesday's shutdown and the spacecraft was "healthy," NASA said in a statement.

The name "Hot Lips" originates from an infamous scene in M*A*S*H, the movie, in which Margaret O'Houlihan is played by Sally Kellerman. During sex with Frank Burns, Margaret is unaware that the public address microphone has been planted beneath their cot, broadcasting graphic details of their sexual encounter throughout the camp on its public address system. "Yes frank! oh yes kiss my hot lips baby" (presumably her labia). This nickname was used - without the sexual meaning - more in the earlier seasons of the TV series but was used less and less as time went on.

Combining their excellent sense of smell, loyalty and dog breath with the flying and hearing powers of bats, bat dogs make excellent slobbering sidekicks. Using their bark as sonar, bat dogs can follow their nemesis (usually Cat Woman) through busy streets, either on the ground or from the air.

Batdogs have one nemesis, the cat. before becoming bat dogs, many ordinary dogs were often outsmarted by these hissing creatures that could climb out of reach. But now, endowed with the powers of bat flight, batdogs can follow their feline enemies no matter how high they climb.



Not all Batdogs wear their uniforms year-round. Some only don their costumes at Halloween, using the festivities and dress up traditions of Halloween to disguise their true natures as Bat Dogs

One day, someone kidnapped an engraver named John Wilker and his pet dog Ace got thrown into a river. Batman and Robin found the dog and as Bruce Wayne, Batman put out signs that he had found the dog. Later, Batman and Robin found out it was Wilker's dog. Batman needed Ace's help in finding Wilker, unfortunately Ace had a star shaped mark on his forehead and if anybody saw Batman with the same dog that Bruce Wayne has then they might find out Bruce Wayne is Batman. To hide this tiny flaw, Batman put a hood over the dog's head to hide the mark and a bat collar too.

Ellen Rometsch Shortly before his assassination in 1963, President John F, Kennedy had a fling with Ellen Rometsch, a beautiful young woman originally from the German Democratic Republic, who had come to Washington with her husband, a sergeant in the West German air force.  In Washington she was soon spotted by Bobby Baker. a friend of the president who was always on the lookout for new "talent." 


Evidently Ellen Rometsch was as talented in bed as she was beautiful. Bobby Baker recalled a phone call he received from JFK shortly after his first encounter with Ellen Rometsch: ‘She really loved oral sex... She went to the White House several times. And President Kennedy called me and said it’s the best head-job he’d ever had, and he thanked me,’


JFK's principal adversary and detractor in Washington, FBI director J. Edgar Hoover caught wind of the affair and suspected a honey trap, since Ellen Rometsch had been a member of a "communist youth group" in East Germany:


J. Edgar Hoover received information that John Kennedy was having a relationship with Ellen Rometsch. In July 1963 Federal Bureau of Investigation agents questioned Ellen Romesch about her past. They came to the conclusion that she was probably a Soviet spy. Hoover actually leaked information to the journalist, Courtney Evans, that Ellen Romesch worked for Walter Ulbricht, the communist leader of East Germany. When Robert Kennedy was told about this information, he ordered her to be deported.

Back in 1952, nobody felt obliged to be so supportive to Christine Jorgensen. She was universally viewed as something sick, twisted, and unhealthy, an object of horrified fascination. 

  
 Christine Jorgensen, the most famous transsexual of her day. Christine Jorgensen had been born George Jorgensen and had lived unhappily as a male for twenty-five years. After a stint in the Army, he learned about the possibility of becoming more feminine and started by taking hormones, and later traveled to Copenhagen, Denmark to have his male sex organs removed. At the time, Denmark used castration on sexual criminals, which is why the procedure was legal there. Christine Jorgensen, now female in appearance, returned to the U.S. and New York’s Daily News broke her story with one of the most famous headlines in publishing history: Ex-G.I. Becomes Blonde Beauty. 


Christine Jorgensen parlayed the recognition into a show business career. Christine Jorgensen finished the last of her reassignment surgeries in the mid-1950s and, now sexually female, continued in show business for many years. She danced in Las Vegas, appeared on The Dick Cavett Show, was voted “Miss Neutral Zone” by American soldiers serving in Korea
